Frenchie, Here in Miami you can go to the VA and speak with them directly ( service reps).....I was told by friends to speak with the DAV  Service rep..... I met him at a mall close to his house and mine. He explained everything  to me how to go about setting appointments with Drs. After I went to all my appointments with the VA, I met him at the DAV office inside the VA Hospital to fill in the claims forms. He made all the copies gave me a set and he mailed the originals to St Petersburg FL. the regional office......when after months of waiting for a reply I stated calling on my own. I spoke to the service rep a few times and he did not get answers either. So I went to St Petersburg in person to find out what happened after meeti...

Frenchie , to add to your list of contacts to start the process with VA I went thru a DAV representative he filled out all the paper work and submitted it to the VA also The American Legion post will have reps that do the same thing.

When my paper work(claims) was lost the DAV rep wrote letters and helped unlock the mystery.....

Ralph your memory is clearer than mine....in the few months i was on Baldy i met a bunch headed to the field and i normally would ask to go thru their pack to weed out (no pun intended) all the junk they were carrying out there......such as after shave lotion etc

I was one of those...you told us off the baggy pants being more comfortable than the tight ones and the boxer underwear was mostly not used out there....remember your lessons well!

I met you at Baldy when I came to the company....it was a spooky place. I have a picture of a cliff I think was to the east that dropped down a long ways. Made it easier to sleep at night....nobody was coning up that side of the hill.

Hi Frenchie,

I remember flying incountry in Oct 68 on a commercial flight from Ca. to Bien Hoa, with a short layover in Hawaii.  My return home began in Da Nang where I was medevaced to Camp Oji Japan for a couple of months to recover from injuries.  I was later flown back to the states from Japan via Alaska along with a lot of fellow patients and military equipment on a massive C5A. I just remember a very long flight, no stewardesses, box lunches, sitting backwards facing the tail of the plane on canvas benches and very little internal lighting. But I was going home!!  Doc

Finally heard something from the VA - got a 60% disability for ischemic heart disease.  Applied a year ago.  And I've heard that here in Illinois, we have a one of the slowest responses times from the VA.
