I was contacted by one of our brothers who has asked if our members would send notes of encouragement to a Nam vet who is currently bedridden with a broken hip. This brother has already lost his wife and son and is seriously depressed. If you feel like helpin' a brother out his info follows - Frank Callaway, c/o Hickory Point Christian Village, 565 W Marion Ave, Forsyth, IL 62535-1110. Thank You for your consideration in this request. I will be sending a note from the 196th LIB Assn. |

I was in C 3/21, 196th from Dec 66 - Dec67. Those of us who were there prior to the formation of Task Force Oregon (TFO) which became the Americal Division were grandfathered on the 196th patch. We had the option to wear either patch but most remained with the 196th patch. I remember going on R&R and we had to wear our unit patch on our khakis. We had a hang tag on the right(?) pocket that was the 196th patch. Mine was made in country and was encased in a heavy cellophane pocket with a leather tag attached. I remained in the Army for the next 20 years, retiring in 1988. Always wore the 196th patch on all uniforms and was never challenged. I was, and still am, very proud to have served in the 196th. I fly a US flag & a 196th... Click here to read more ... |

****TO THOSE ATTENDING THE REUNION IN SEATTLE, PLEASE TAKE NOTE****I got a call from Bob Kelly today to advise me of a cheaper way to get to the Bellevue Hilton from the airport. A normal taxi fare from the airport to the hotel is approximately $40.00 one way. SHUTTLE EXPRESS will provide the same service for 1/2 the price. For more information and possible further discounts go to - http://www.shuttleexpress.com/ |

Larry Harper of C 2/1 chimed in today and agrees that Frankel was wrongly posted under his unit. We will get Frankel moved to C 3/21 as soon as possible. Thanks everyone for your help. |

Just got a call from Charlie Tiger, Dale Flickinger, C 3/21, 65-67. Dale won a SIlver Star during Attleboro and verified that SSG John Frankel was a Charlie Tiger. Keep 'em comin' guys. We've already got enough to make the correction but this is a good thread. |

Excellent info Jim. That's exactly what we are looking for to support Joe Greear's comment that SSG Frankel was indeed a C 3/21, Charlie Tiger. I will get with our Honor Roll coordinator, Joe Hahoney & Ken McKenzie about getting this fixed on the next revision. I will also contact the webmaster for C 2/1 to inform him of the error. Thanks for the suggestion that we take this issue to the Forum. It's still so new that I tend to forget it's now available for just such issues as this. |

I have aked John Frankel's son for any info he has on his Dad's unit at time of death and all documentation says C 2/1. Joe Greear C 3/21 remembers John as his friend and platoon Sgt in C 3/21. We are continuing to search for more info to sort this out. Feel free to add your comments. Anything we can dig up will help. |
