Hi Ken, Would like to suggest we set up a category for 196th Merchandise. Now that I'm the quartermaster, I would like to be able to "communicate to the masses". Things like: "We're out of black 196th T Shirts in size Large & 2X"; and "We're out of challenge coins". (Both of these statements are accurate, by the way) Or to let our members know when a particular item is back on inventory, etc. Any thoughts? Rich (Doc) Mosher |

Ralph, Sorry to be so late getting back to you. I had 2 stents put in almost 3 years ago. 90% & 99% blockage. Since the doctor said that there was no heart attack and no heart damage, I thought that I'd have an increase of energy after the stents, but not so much. And I find it incredible that the VA does not have a cardio rehab program! |

Hi Greg, Yes, but I understand it is not considered a 'true' 100%. Be that as it may, I applied for unemployability and was denied. :( |

As I understand VA math, you begin with 100% ABILITY. Then if you're granted a 60% DISABILITY, you have 40% ABILITY left. Then if you get another disability rating, it is deducted from you ABILITY, then added to your DISABILITY. This means that with the 40% that you have left, and you get an additional 30% rating, you multiply the 30% times your 40% (left-over) ABILITY and get 7%. Then the VA rounds that up to 10% and adds that to your DISABILITY giving you a 70% disability. So if using using VA math and you have have a rating, for example, of 80% (10%-30%-60%), it looks like you can never reach 100%! VA math means that if you have an 80% rating, and the VA grants you 20% additional (for whatever), that ... Click here to read more ... |

I have talked to several vets who have a rated disability for Ischemic Heart Disease and it seems that everyone's disability is at a different rating. I have heard from 30% to 100%. If you don't mind, would you please post your rating for Ischemic Heart Disease? Thanks, Doc Mosher |

ANOTHER PATCH SIGHTING! (Besides "Tour of Duty") If you saw the movie "Uncommon Valor", there was a scene where Gene Hackman was watching the returning POWs deplane (on TV). The camera backs away from the TV and there is a frame with his son's picture, medals, and a 196th Patch! Go Chargers! (not the football team) -Doc Mosher |

The OD green 196th baseball caps are back in stock! Unit crests are in as well. Caps are $15 + $5 shipping and unit crests are $8 + $2 shipping. If a cap and crest are shipped in the same box, then it's just $5 shipping. A CIB or CMB pin (1 1/2") is $4 and a large (3") cloth CIB attached to the back of the cap is $5. Rich (Doc) Mosher 99 N. Finally heard something from the VA - got a 60% disability for ischemic heart disease. Applied a year ago. And I've heard that here in Illinois, we have a one of the slowest responses times from the VA. -Doc |

Frenchie, I think that the only way they can tell if you have ischemic heart disease is to do an angiogram - where they put dye into your system and then scope it out. I had a mild chest pain in June 2010 which went away within a minute. Then came back later that day and still lasted only about a minute. No pain radiating down my arm (typical for a heart attack) and no pain in my jaw. So as a precautionary measure, I took an asprin. That evening I was completely exhausted and the pain returned and didn't go away. So I had my wife drive me to the hospital (not a good idea if you live far from the hospital) and they did an angiogram then ended up with 2 stents. I had a 90% and a 99% blockage i... The caps come in green or black and that 21st Inf pin in the picture is not included. The caps are now $15 ea, the CIB on the back is $5, and shipping is $5. If you want 2 caps, shipping total is $6; 3 caps = $7 (shipping to the same address). If you want a CIB or CMB pin, add $4. |

Thanks for the plug, Jack! Those caps have been very popular . . . so much so that a bunch of F Troopers wanted one made up with the 17th Cav crest embroidered on it. So I had them made up on a black cap and also on a green cap. If I could figure out how to post a picture, I'd post one! -"Doc" Mosher |
