Message Each year, as Memorial Day approaches, I think back to June 6, 1970. I

suppose it is because the two dates are usally very close in proximity. I had

just joined Delta Company, 2nd Platoon, 4/31st, l96th L.I.B., as a new

R.T.O.
I knew nothing, to say the least. As we attempted to walk off the

"finger" of LZ West early on the morning of June 6, 1970, we

were hit with mortars and .51 machine gun fire.
Each year I think of the

men lost, and our captain who was injured.
