Message Daniel LaPierre: I read with interest your posting of August 4, 2008, and

the events you detailed of June 6, 1970. I never knew you personally, but I

am glad to see you are well and living in Maine. On June 6, 1970, I was a

very green RTO assigned to Delta Company, 4/31st, and we, along with I

believe Compnay A, were ambushed at the base of LZ West. It has been a

long time, but I hope you find the LT you are seeking. Ray Bess, Houston,

Message Fellow Chargers. My wife and I just returned from 10 days in Hawaii and a

visit to our new generation of "Chargers." After meeting CSM

Uncangco, MSG Platico, and members of the 196th staff you can rest

assured the 196th traditions and history are in good hands. They were very

gracious in giving of their time and provided a tour of their facility. We

were grateful for the courtesy shown to us and appreciated the ride back to

the Hale Koa (home of the warrior) a military hotel on Wakiki.

Message Bill (Zack)Zarrella,

I was with E. Co. 2/1 from February 1968 to

February 1969. I was squad leader of gun 4 that was around the hill from

the road on the side with the helo-pad on LZ Ross. I was always with Ed

Dougherty and Ralph Heft and Carl Jones. We did the buddy plan from

basic to getting out. Lost track of Ralph and Carl but see Ed every so

often.

Charlie Spencer
