Message I was working arty liason in the TOC radio room on Mary Ann that day,

monitoring the radio transmissions. Judy was about 10 Ks west of M-A in

plain view and IIRC(?)a 1/46 Inf.Co. may have done some initial LZ prep

work. Anyway, as the bird came across the valley to the north, I distinctly

recall the pilot/copilot reported taking fire and then the ground reporting

seeing a tracer stream. IIRC(?)the only survivor was the copilot thrown clear

out the windshield as it rolled over. God bless them all

Message Sorry, typo, ....most KIA's were 2/1 who replaced Co D 4/31. I was in S1

and the Adjudant took me to view what was brought in to Hawk Hill; a few

years ago, in DC, I met Capt Bacon of A 2/1 (I think) who lost a soldier to a

flying broken prop blade...horrible.......God bless their souls.......

Message This is a sad day in history of 2/1 as 38 years ago today 29 souls perished in

front of my eyes when a Chinook was shot down at LZ Judy while

transporting members of the battalion from Kham Duc. The soldiers were

primarily from the battalion heavy mortar company with several other

soldiers killed on the LZ by the sheared off rotor blades. May you rest in
