196th LIGHT INFANTRY BRIGADE
I was a crew chief with hhc co. 196th in 67/68 when we were next to
the 2nd surg hospital in Chu Lia. I would like to hear from anyone who
was in this aviation unit at that time. This also includes 8th supt. who
did maint. Thanks and Welcome Home
Would like to hear with anyone who served with me in the Hdq & Hdq
Aviation unit from April 1970 to August 1970.
My name is Michelle Vest. My uncle, Michael Owen
Hardesty, was killed in action on September 6, 1968, while participating
in a search and clear operation 7 miles west of Quang Ngai City. According
to a letter from then COM, Junius Tanner, he served with the 123rd Aviation
Battalion. However, after visiting the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial, they
have my uncle's unit listed as the 196th LIB. I am wondering if there
is someone who might undestand this "discrepancy"...or better yet, I'd
like to know if anyone might have known my uncle. He earned the Silver
and Bronze Stars with Combat V, and according to a member of the 123rd
at that time, only 3 Silver Stars were awarded that year by the 123rd...my
uncle being one of them. I'd like to know if the two units worked together?
Might my uncle have been "on loan" from one unit to the other? Any ideas
on how I might find that out? Many thanks! Michelle
I was just checking out your web site and thought I say best wishes

Just found this site and want to say hello to you all. It was great
privilege to fly helicopters for the unit '68 -'69. What a ride, some
really good time and some real heart breakers.

I was a crew chief with the aviation section hhc. Looking for any
other members of the aviation section.
Any 196th "Charger" pilots - guys who served with the Aviation Section,
HHC 196th LIB, we are atempting to put together a gathering at the next
196th Reunion. We figure there is no other single unit that say more 196th
action on a daily basis then the little 7 pilot aviation section. If you
know anyone who served in the Aviation Section, in any capacity and particularly
as flight crew - pilots, door gunners and crew chiefs, let us know. Thanks
I was a Warrant Officer pilot with the Headquarters Aviation Section
all of 1967. We had a chance to fly some very interesting missions in
and out of country. Flew Cobras my second tour out of Pleiku.
