GUESTBOOK ENTRIES FOR I would like to wish all 196's a very Merry Christmas and a happy
and healthy New Year. During this holiday period lets not forget our fallen
brothers and those who are no longer with us. God Bless the USA. Jack
Quinn Co B 3/21 1995-1966. Happy Holidays to all, especially members of 1st Plt, D/3/21 To my fellow Gimlets: Jim bishop the artical was in the vfw magazine in aug 92. It was written
by Hugh Stoval of killer Plt D Co. 3/21. I have contacted the vfw magavine
and asked that you get a copy if they still have it archive. In case they
don't I know that Hugh must have kept a copy. so Hugh if you read this
please get in touch with one of us. Hope this helps Jim. Have a Great
Christmas one and all. Anyone remember STEVE OLSON, was RTO for 82nd Arty FO assigned to
3/21, his memory is shot and can't remember what Co. he was with. Was
with 3/21 near DaNang awaiting stand-down, left in June 72. He has stated
he saw/experienced no traumatic events; however, he is a wreck of a human
being. 52 yrs old, been on PTSD diisability for 20 years or so. Met him
thru our Wives conversing about their "strange" husbands. We both live
in this small town of appx. 1000 pop. My concenses is that the VA has
screwed his mind up with all the psychotrophics over the years; essentially,
using him as a lab-rat. They tried this on me, fortunately I continued
my medical tng. after retireing from the Army (nurse & respiratory therapy)
and went to the books each time I was prescribed a medication. In my mind,
without doubt; the VA would rather drug one into oblivion or worse yet,
let you die than to deal with you in an expeditious & ethical manner.
I base this on my personal experience backed-up by civilian Medical Specialists.
I do take narcotic pain meds (the bare minium necessary) and Librium (PRN)
for muscle spasms & sleep. I remember "old-Timers" talking about how they
could tell a weather change was coming by how their bodies felt; I now
know what they are talking about as I'm sure many of you do. "out here"
Doc Brassfield There are a couple of 196th things on ebay again. Mostly half way
down the page.Just type in "196th".One of them is a C company 3/21st charlie
tiger patch. I think someone mentioned here once they wanted one. Hello Brothers-Just wondering if any one out there might still have
a copy of either the VFW or the Vietnam mag. dated August of 1992 which
had the story of the 20th anniversary when Task Force Gimlet stood down.If
I could get a copy of the picture that was in the story It would close
alot of doors for me.I'm on alot of morphine thru the V.A. and not real
sure how much time I have left on this free land of ours-Thanks--Jim Hey Bill Doyle, from D Co. 3/21, 71-72, we haven't talked in a while.
Merry Christmas to you as well. I served with Hawk Plt. D.Co. 3/21 from Jan 71 to stand down of Task
Force Gimlet 11 Aug 72. Looking for Mick Barr, David Wells, David Kempt,
Randy Moss, or any others I served with. I hope you all have a great Christmas
and a Happy New Year. YOUR Merry Christmas and Happy New Year cannot be found in the battlefield

A 3/21 196th lib. There was an article that came out in either the VFW mag. or the Vietnam
mag. in August of 1992 and it was about the 20th anniversary when Task
Force Gimlet stood down in Nam.There was a picture in the article which
I was in but over the years I lost my copy.If the person that sent in
that picture still has a copy to send me it sure would help me to tie
up some loose ends.I'm the tall guy flipping the bird. Thanks my Brothers Just a quick note letting you 196th soldiers about a great article
that is in the November/December issue of the VFW magazine about the organization
I am lucky to lead. It tells our story pretty well and I have heard from
some of you about the article. I was with Company C 3/21 196th in the
Valllys and up North in the spring of 68...came home August 68...one of
the great things that has happened to me over the years is doing the work

with Roger again...he is a Charlie Tiger too...we went up and went fishing
with Tiger 6 Captain/General Denny Leach...caught some fish and told some
great tales..it was fun..also if you don't get or read the VFW magazine
you can read the article if you go to our web site which is mac-v.org
and look under newsletters...it is titled safe harbor and it does load
slow do to color pictures...I hope this upcoming Thanksgiving will be
a great one for you and your loved ones...Jim "Red" Coulthard. 3rd platoon

WHERE ARE YOU BUSHMASTERS 1972 BCO 3RD 21ST 196TH I NEED HELP PLEASE! I served in VietNam from Jan.71
to Dec.71 with the 196th 3/21 LIB. I was in China Beach Hosp. with Maleria
some time in Sept. or Oct.1971. The VA is claiming that they can't find
my medical records from VietNam. If anyone knows how I can obtain these
records PLEASE drop me an e-mail. I have requested my records from St.Louis
in Feb. with no responce. Thank you! Dave "Animal" Bushmasters Grunt My dad Dwight E. Casper was with 3/21 196th Black
death. I am now in college and I am writing an argumentive paper on wether
we should have been invovled or not in Vietnam. If anyone would like to
comment please do I also need 2 people to volunteer for an interview(done
through e-mail, just a few questions) Thanks so much God bless you! Was with 3/21 1969. Came from G/75th. Looking for
Captian Walh, spelling? Could be spelled Wall. He was S-4 for HHC 3/21
in 69. If anyone else remembers me give me a yell. I enjoyed looking over Jack's jpeg of the company
patches, etc., of the 3/21 "Gimlets". I was wondering if there was something
similar for the 1/46th out there? For all of you that were in 3/21"Gimlets" I put
together a single jpeg image that has all 5 company patches, the battalion's
insignia, the 196th's patch & insignia &the Americal patch & insignia
- copy&paste this link in your browser and then you can copy and save
the jpeg - http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL433/1045515/1957272/58500847.jpg I came incountry Feb68toFeb69 C co 3/21.There were
4or5 new NCO's who came into the company in May a few were named Dave
Iwas wondering if one of them was Dave Frierson. I was just going over the message board and realized
that us guys in the 3/21st were the best.Wait I was in 1/46th too they
were the best too. Wait, now I'm confused. At any rate we had to be the
best looking grunts around. On second thought, dang it. You know I've
seen some re-union pictures of various 196th outfits and you guys have
really gotten old . What happened? all of us 3/21st guys and 1/46th guys
are still young. In my mind at least.I haven't been to any re-unions.
Did we get old too? Tell me it ain't so! I served with B 3rd Platton for the fall of 1971
after the standown of the 11th LIB. I recall coming to DaNang with Jim-Jim
a Viet kid who my old platoon asked me to look after. Jim-Jim carried
an M16 and full ruck and the first sgt of B 3/21 said we could both stay!
As I recall the platoon moved from DaNang to work just below Chu Lai and
we spent Thansgiving on some abandoned forward OP in that area, maybe
it was called Chippiewa? I remember Alvalrez, Bird from Utah and a red
leg LT with red hair and glasses. I returned to the states in Dec. 71.
I was the Plat Sgt. I also remember a young medic named Delaney who was
wounded by a foot popper just before I left. I think he wanted to be a
Priest. Delaney was in my platoon. I heard that Jim-Jim may have been
killed by VC in DaNang. Hope all are well all these years later. As we approach 7 July agin - I an reminded that
it has been 32 years (7 July 1972) since I lost 4 men to "Friendly fire".
Task Force Gimlet 3/21. SGT Brock, SGT Duff, SP4 Fernandez and SP4 Townes
- I remember them every day. May god protect all of our servicemen and
women. I was with A Co. 3/21 Nov.68 til Mar.69 Was with 196th from its inception at Ft. Devens,
Oct 65. In "NAM" Aug 4th~66 - Aug 4, ~67 Co. B 3/21inf 2nd squad. Hope
to hear from some comrads!! In Tay ninh and Dau tieng. want to thank all of you who have contacted me about
Garry Green (3/21). I have been given a gift this year, hearing from some
of you who served with him. My thoughts are with all of you on this day.
You have suffered the loss of your friends and comrades. Thank you for
serving your country with honor, and I hope that you all find peace in
your souls. Linda Served from Sept 71 to Sept 72. With 198th recon
then with 196th in Chu Lai and finally with Task Force Gimlet 3/21 till
stand down. Hi to all who served with me. I think of you often. I'm looking for information on any pictures of my
father in law or any other information. His name is SHAWN TYLER JOHNSON,his
last duty assignment and major command was HHC3dBn21stInf196thInfBe USARPAC.
SHAWN passed away on may 18,2004 from cancer caused by agent orange. His
son and family would like to find or receive pictures of him in the military
for his memorial service.any information would be very honorable and accepted. hello i was in hhc 3/21 196 lib 68-69...i spent
the majority of the time with 3-5 other guys on LZ ross prior to ross
i drove from chu lai to the dmz and then back..i am trying to put in a
claim for ptsd however since i was not taking notes of when and where
i was and can not verify the crap i and all of us went through and did
not have a 11b mos va has denied my claim ..i am resubmitting it however
..i need so help with facts ...i remembre as we convoyed up to the d some
where are where we hlp the ist cav..i was in a stream helping bodybag
8 gi that were brough tover in an apc....this was proip to the d around
may...i spent my time during the dmz situation loading up the my truck
with ammo and getting on mike 8 boats and came up to base camp at the
dmz... if anyone out there can help with any veirifcation i would very
much appreciate your help i went by mike fridovich in those days drove
a 2 1/2 ton truck ...never drove in convoys between chu lai and baldy
..fom baldy we had to drive in convoys thank you...michael You're right Mike he was in D 3/21 and he was on
the parade field at Fort Lewis, WA when the 3/21 was reactivated along
with many other distingished Gimlets. I have just looked at my copy of Stanton and found
carbons of a letter I sent to LTC Rocco Negris dated 26 July 1972 after
reading of the casing of the Brigade colors in an article in that days
New York Times, which included a photo. I have a letter from Negris to
me acknowledging mine which is dated 2 August 1972. Some guys may have
still been on the ground later in August, but the 196th no longer existed
as a unit. Gordon: the 196th per se stood down around July of 72. The 3/21st
remained until August (I think you're right about the date). The 3/21st
that remained continued to wear the 196th patch. I think it was still
196th but I'm not positive.I Have an old Stars and Stipes headline of
the 3/21st standing down. I think it says 3/21st 196th. I'll try to find
it, scan it and e-mail it to you.If I recall it was B Company that took
the HE round in the field that afternoon when they had requested a willie
pete airburst.I have seen two people that were in B Company that day post
here. Maybe they can help.I think it was D Company that spent the last
day in the field. They stayed about a week longer after they brought in
the other companies.Someone in D Company was the last guy ,on the last
chopper ,in the last group out of the bush officially. So I guess he "turned
out the light". RE: Gordon's question (below): Stanton [Vietnam Order of Battle] maintains
3/21 was reassigne to 196th when AMERICAL departed Vietnam. 3/21 became
'Separate' when 196th left Vietnam, and was "the last U.S. Army ground
combat battalion to leave Vietnam." Confusion and a question: The unit history says we stood down in June,
1972. However, at least one company of 3/21 Infantry and B Battery, 3/82
Field Artillery remained. B Battery took over a different Hill and assumed
coverage for an area previously covered by RVN's. I was first stationed
on Hill 260 (LZ Linda), then at HHB 3/82 FA compound (morning report clerk)--CO
LTC Orren Widdon, and finally, in June, was assigned to the residual force
(B Battery) as RTO/Clerk at the airbase. We did not ship out until August
13, 1972. This is important because we claim that our organization was
the final ground combat unit in country, but The Cav was also operating
down south, and they only stood down about a week before us in August.
I have the copies of the Associated Press Black & White photo prints of
the final FA round being fired (a ceremonial WP). So, the question is,
does anyone know if the residual force was officially 196th Infantry Brigade
or not (no one told me to change my shoulder patch), AND does anyone have
knowledge of the terrible "friendly fire" incident that the residual force
infantry troops suffered as a result of rounds fired by B Battery? It
was likely in July, with a minimum of 3 casualties and 10 wounded. A Major
Ward was in charge at headquarters operations at the DaNang Airbase, and
the CO at LZ Scott was a CPT. Picket (?). Feel free to e-mail me. (SSG;
9 1/2 years, SMOS 13E30 (primary in RVN), PMOS 91C30) I was a proud member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade 3D Battalion,
21th Infantry, Company C. I was in Vietnam in 1967. Started out in Tay
Ninh and moved north. Any brothers out there that remember my name and
want to talk? It's been a long time and I have never forgotten. I was a proud member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade 3D Battalion,
21th Infantry, Company C during Vietnam War. To those who have made the comments that the 3/21 Gimlet website is
dead, not true. There are legal issues that still need to be fully resloved.
Some person got into the website and inserted a virus into the computer
that held the website's information and the system crashed. The decision
was made to leave the site up on the server until such time as the legal
issues could be resloved and a new site could be built. The new website
will not be an interactive site as once planned, and will not contain
as many links. There will be no message board ro guest book; these only
attract vandilism. Look for the new site. I was with A Co. 3/21 August to November 1969. Dan McFall was my squad
leader and Borrelo was platoon leader. Anyone out there. I finally dug
out pictures after 30+ years. I was at LZ Center AO. B Co. 3/21 196th. 6/10/67 to 3/1/68 E Co. 3/1/68 to 6/11/68 Does any one have information on Keith Lemons?(1968-1969) I was in
in the four-deuce squad on LZ Center for E Co. of 3/21. Keith was in FDC
at the time. I came into country and joined the "Assassins" with Keith
Lemons and Jack Lee before we were assigned to the mortar squads. I think
of all of faces I remember, often, but the names are lost. Thanks,"Lip" I am trying to locate Leo Kelly drafted from NJ was an original medic

Mass and specialized training at Ft. Drum,. NY. He went over to Viet Nam
aboard the Darby in July of 1966. He was in Tay Ninh and Operation Attleboro,
I believe. Unfortunately, Bob passed away in December of 2002. I miss
him very much. Thanks and God bless. I WAS IN THE 3/21, 196, CO. E, (RECON)DEC.1968 TO JAN. 1970. WE OPERATED
OUT OF HILL WEST & CENTER. WE HAD SOME GREAT GUYS IN OUR GROUP. I WOULD
LOVE TO SEE SOME OF MY OLD ARMY BUDS. WE WERE GOOD... A South Vietnamese artillery salute and a Sousa march by the band
marked the finale. On August 11 the battalion officially stood down. Most
of the men were sent home - their DEROSs (date expected to return from
overseas) had finally arrived. Those with job specialties still needed
in Vietnam, and men with less than six months in-country were reassigned
to finish the remainder of their tours. On August 23, 1972, the 21st Infantry,
commanded by Lt. Col. Rocco Negris, was inactivated at Oakland, Calif.
The infantry war was over. I DONT KNOW WHAT UNIT YOU WERE WITH BUT WE DIDNT LEAVE TILL AUG OF

post. And as its another new year I hope to find some of my old friends
in cyber space. You guys stay dry and keep the faith. Mark Something seems wrong guys. I'm not talking about the guys here or
this site. Please don't misunderstand. As Vietnam Vets we can , if anyone
can , know what it's like to be brothers. To be different. We are different. On
some sites (not this one) we are becoming like the people we never wanted
to become. I would hate to see "them" break us up.They spent over 30 years
trying to break us, and in some places they seem to be succeeding.Maybe(
in fact I'm sure)I'm not coming across right about this but at least I
know what I mean, lol.Hang in there, I'm not joining "them".Screw them.

SGT NEAL. WE WORKED OFF OF LZ CENTER. HAPPY HOLIDAYS BROTHERS. I was a medic with B co. 321 July 70 to July 71. I was there when
Larry Flurry from Alabama killed the big lizard by the river. Also helped
treat Bill Stroud when he let his claymoore mine go off as he stood over
it. Does anyone remember these incidents? Also there when we were ambushed
on the other side of LZYoung with about 20 casualties. Other medics were
Dave Crawford, Mark Hunter. I am looking for Larry Womble from Miss. I
think. And Larry Talbert (?). Or anyone else that might remember me. I
do remember the big guy Lurch who captured the young NVA soldier who was
asleep with his ak47, brand new, with only 4 or 5 rounds in the clip.
After this VC and VC female hit claymoore mine near the same logger site.
She was killed and buried and the VC walking point was medivaced out.

1968/69.... I was in country from April 22, 1968 to June 18, 1969 November 23, 2003 I am (Spec.4) Carleton L. Williams, 120 Lakeview
Lane, Fayetteville, Ga 30214,770/461-1880, wmsinc98@bellsouth.net and
I served in Co. C, 8 Support, 3/21st Americal Division. Arrived at Cam
Rahn bay April 22, 1968, worked at rear aid station in Chu Lai, LZ Baldy
and on to 95th Evacuation Hospital as the Americal liaison. Was called
"Willie," or "Doc," The head nurse at 95th Evac. wrote for me a letter
of commendation and would like to have a copy of it. Saw many wounded
from Americal and others, too. Remember the first night at LZ Baldy aid
station, I was sleeping in that tent next to the aid station entrance
which the choppers almost blew away each time they came in or went out
and learning of the first fatality that I had been aware of and it was
saddening to me, later, I would deal with many deaths and be a part of
trying to save them. Some survived and a lot didn’t. Eventually, I helped
build the tent kits to which the tents were placed over making a more
livable environment. Helped work on the radio antenna during a typhoon
on top of the aid station while it was pouring rain. Just started receiving
benefits from VA, as I have not taken advantage of until now. Recommend
all who served to check into http://www.va.gov/ for all your health benefits.
Andy Anderson is only one who I have had contact since my return. Some
wrote me upon my return, at that time I did not want to communicate with
them. I am very sorry I didn't. Would enjoy communicating with those who
I worked either at LZ Baldy or 95th Evacuation Hospital in DaNang and
became very close friends. Submitted this information today to http://www.196th.org/guestbook/addguest.html

anyone tell me what happed in the LZ Center in the Quang Tin province
on May 12th 1969. My dad was SGT. Ernest (Joe) Joseph Hughes of E 3/21.
I do not know the platoon but have found out that he was the radar team
leader for E company. He was KIA 12 May 69. He was awarded the Bronze
star posthumously for Heroism under fire. The report I have only tells
me he that the LZ was over run and that the bunkers were attacked, including
the 4.2 mortar section. The document goes on to say he aided his trapped
fellow solders and assaulted the hostile forces were he was mortally wounded.
My mom never talked about it and remarried very soon after to another
fine solders who is my step dad now I guess. I know nothing of his service
and only found out about him a few weeks ago. I was always under the impression
that it was all the same and we were just at another base. If anyone knew
my dad and can tell me about him or provide any information on what happened
in the LZ Center in the Quang Tin province on May 12th 1969. I would be
ever so grateful. I am proud of what both my dad's did, as well as what

my dad (James D. Smith "J.D."). My dad's military unit was 3/21 Americal
E. Co Reconnaissance. In light of the US invasion of Iraq, we have spent
many hours in discussion and I have learned a lot about what war is like
and what he experienced in Nam. My reason for this search is to learn
more about my dad and maybe hook him up with some military friends. Also
there is a patch that he has in a picture along with his 196th Light Infantry
Brigade patch and hi Americal patch, this patch has the word "Assassins",
"RCN", "3/21", "We Who Do Not Die" and a skull with cross bones. He can't
seem to find this patch and I have searched all over the internet for
it and can't find it either, I would like to find this and purchase it
so that my dad could put it with his other patches and medals from Vietnam.

and we did work from LZ East. Just before I DEROSED there was a patch
made honoring the "Bushmasters". When I was at Fort Benning I loaned it
to a fellow Bushmaster so he could make a copy unfortunately I didn't
get it back. If anyone has that patch and can scan it and send it to me
I would be most appreciative. My wife will then embroidery it back into
a patch and it will be displayed with the other memorabilia from my Army
years. Thanks and send some e-mail my way. Welcome Home Served with A Co 3/21 from 10-67 to 10-68. Everyone called me Stoney.

if you can help or have any info e mail me .thanks carl Howard Williams was with HHC 3/21 My father, Howard Eugene Williams, Jr. of Chamblee, GA served as a
Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the 196 Light Infantry Brigade and
was killed December 7, 1969, the day after his 26th birthday. He was known
as "Gene" or "Will" in the service. I was only four years old when he
died and truly never knew him. As my son reached four years old earlier
this year, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on my father. Last Summer
I came across the website for the 196th Light Infantry Brigade Association
and learned of the upcoming reunion. The President, Warren Neill, was
kind enough to ask around for anyone who may have known or served with
my father. As you are well aware, Vietnam was an emotionally charged issue,
and growing up it was not a topic for discussion due to the extreme and
passionate views many people held at the time. It has been more than thirty
years and my Mother has never remarried. We have talked very little about
my Father's military career, and really never about his death, although
my Mom talks about him all the time. As a family, my Mother, sister, and
I were never able to grieve together due to our young ages (4 & 5 at the
time). The first time we did was when the Moving Wall came through Atlanta
in the late eighties. I have to say it was definitely moving. My father
is honored on the wall Panel 15W, Row 37. I have visited The Vietnam Memorial
in Washington, DC several times and am very proud of my father and his
service to our country. And I sincerely hope that I will be half the Father
to my son as he and his memory have been for me. I would appreciate any
information you can provide about my Father, his service, or his death.
Thank you all for your service to our Country, and thank you to anyone
who can help..... Lee Williams Lookin for an RTO last name Hunnicutt(SP)C co. 3/21 2nd platoon .I

time in Tallassee, Al. Most of the guys called Me "mack" Should You remember,
give Me a shout. I have received a little information but please anyone that might
even think they know something please contact me. Can anyone tell me what
happed in the LZ Center in the Quang Tin province on May 12th 1969. My
dad was SGT. Ernest (Joe) Joseph Hughes of E 3/21. I do not know the platoon
but have found out that he was the radar team leader for E company. He
was KIA 12 May 69. He was awarded the Bronze star posthumously for Heroism
under fire. The report I have only tells me he that the LZ was over run
and that the bunkers were attacked, including the 4.2 mortar section.
The document goes on to say he aided his trapped fellow solders and assaulted
the hostile forces were he was mortally wounded. My mom never talked about
it and remarried very soon after to another fine solders who is my step
dad now I guess. I know nothing of his service and only found out about
him a few weeks ago. I was always under the impression that it was all
the same and we were just at another base. If anyone knew my dad and can
tell me about him or provide any information on what happened in the LZ
Center in the Quang Tin province on May 12th 1969. I would be ever so
grateful. I am proud of what both my dad's did, as well as what all of
you sacrifice. May God grant you peace for the Hell you have lived. I
salute you all. I served with the 5th & the 11th SF from 1984 to 1991.
Joe ( Hughes) Palmberg My dad was SGT. Ernest Joseph Hughes of E 3/21. He was KIA 12 May
69. He was awarded the Bronze star & PH posthumously. I was 4 when this
happened and I only met him once that I can remember. My mom never talked
about it. I know nothing of his family or his service other than that
on the wall. I found the information on your web site under "Honor Roll".
I will be making a trip to DC to look up his name. If anyone knew my dad
and can tell me about him or provide any information on what happened
please contact me. 915-388-8107 Greetings one and all. This is Boxer 1-6 from C/3/21 196th calling
anyone who can help me find my RTO. His name was Devine and I think he
was from Wyoming. I was his Lt., Joseph Ace, and he kept me sane on a
Christmas ambush in Tay Ninh in '66. Hi to "Shotgun Slade" aka Sgt. Lawrence,
if you are out there. God, how I have thought about you guys over the
years, all of you wonderful guys. I just found this web sight today. Please
call, write or pop smoke, and I will be there. Ace ....out. I served with B Company 3rd of the 21st 196th. From March 1970 to
Apirl 1971. I walked point most of the time. I hope all you "GRUNTS" are
still alive. I would like to find Eddy the "PINEAPPLE" McShane or Lee
Harris Are you out there some where. Also I want to find out how many
of us "GRUNTS" are still alive. Also how many of us are getting ready
for our LIVERS are getting ready to hop out onto the ground. I have Hepatitius
C and I have a feeling there are a lot more of us out there with the same
problem. I am getting a 50 percent disability but only for post tramatic
stress. And the only reason I'm getting that was I walked point one more
time and attacked the VA hospitial in Tampa Florida. Had to serve 2 years
in the federal prison. I have had a skin rash sence I got back. I was
hospitalized for 5 months when I got back across the water and to the
world. The VA is just here to stick it to us the same way they stuck it
to us in THE VAM. Don't let them do it. I will no longer put up with thhhere
shit. So now I see a private doctor for the VA and payed for by the VA.
I am barred going to the VA hospitial. They don't seem to like a GRUNT
that won't take there shit there dishing out. I would like to find out
how many of us have come down with Hep C and and other Skin problems.DAM
I am still alive but pay the price every day. I hope Eddy Mcshane your

I have a new e-mail address. My best to each of you. Do any of you remember the name of the CO & the 3rd Platoon Leader
for A-3/21 during the summer and fall of 71? Lt.Betchler was the PL for
1st platoon and Lt.Fox was PL for 2nd but I am embarrassed to say I can't
remember the CO's name... (I was in 1st platoon) I was in 2nd platoon A 3/21 from March to September 1970. I shared
a foxhole with Chip Kefer, SGT William Bodine, and Ray Freeman in Hiep
Duc Valley on May 1, when we were hit. I was wounded. Charles "Chip" Kefer
was KIA. Ray Freeman was medivaced. I ran into him at Ft Dix, NJ in late
1970. SGT William Bodine (Philadelphia, PA) was medivac, but, I never
was able to find out how he recovered. May 1st was really nasty. I was
wounded a second time and medivaced August 21, 1970 in AK Valley, when
a "bouncing betty" killed SGT Dean Weigand (Philadelphia. I happened to
run into the medivac pilot, who was shot down with our guys and "feathered"
into LZ Karen. He was working at a VA out patient clinic in Tacoma, WA
until he retired. I hope the guys from second platoon have faired well
over the years- and that includes Stan P (New York) from the FA forward
observer unity. Looking for anyone who served with Mickey Devlin (medic) in Company | |
