Something in the VFW Mag caught my eye...bothers me in this day and age of "smart bombs, GPS guided Missiles, surgical strikes"  etc etc etc. you know all the buzz words,  you decide.  I had to to the math when i read the numbers.

PERSIAN GULF  WAR DEATHS, 1190-1991
TOTAL HOSTILE DEATHS          148
TOTAL NON-HOSTILE Deaths    235
     Operation Desert Shield       84
      Operation Desert Storm     151

TOTAL DEATHS                      383

We all know about "Friendly Fire"  I tell people  i  was shot at by the bad guys and occasionally bombed by the good guys....so they all had a shot at Frenchie...
Sad situation.....More guys were KIA by our side than by the enemy(?) sure looks that way to my bifocaled eyes

I imagine that quite a few of the non-hostile deaths were due to vehicle accidents.

here is a good follow up: https://mmj.vcu.edu/2010/12/06/non-hostile-deaths-common-in-iraq-afghanistan/  note that friendly fire represents only about 4% while suicide climbs to 21%.  The suicide rate continues into civilian life.  this is the real problem.....
