Welcome to the new 196th Light Infantry Brigade Association forum.
We have operated the 196th website for many years and many of you have used the Guestbook for posting and chatting. This forum should be much more friendly and easy to use for discussions and communication.
I will rely on all of you to suggest different board headings that make sense in keeping this forum organized. It will probably make sense to create a heading for each battalion, and maybe subheadings for the years, but it's too soon to make that decision.
I will be the administrator, and I'm still learning how this whole thing works. There is also the ability to assign some of you as heading moderators, so you can ask for your own board section that you can manage.
Once you sign in here, go to your member profile and change your screen name to your real name. That way people that know you will recognize you on-line. (If you want to remain anonymous, that's OK also). |

In this post I going to post my name, the unit I served in, and when I was there so that anyone who runs a "search" for me on these forums, my name will turn up in the search results
Jack Krohn, in 1st platoon, Co. A 3/21, in 1971
even though I have this information in my signature, the info in the signature area is not part of a normal search, only the info in the topics and the body of the threads / posts. |

CaptJack you got a great idea ..
I hope everyone will follow your example because in looking at the members list you
have to be clairvoyant to know the guys' unit, year of service, nickname etc
Kudos to Ken for offering this message board...thank you.

This is great, I was hoping for something like this for a long time. It's much easier for communication. This will be one of my regularly visited forums. |

Our recon 2/1 unit opt out of Hawk Hill; we were all draftees & lots of E5 "shake & bakes" from Benning, 11F MOS except for the 1LT & Plt Sgt...seems like there were about 15 in the unit.....we went to Hill 251 seems like in Quang Tin Provence....funny that I recall the 8 digit co-ordinates there or Quang Nagi were preceded by Bravo Tango but we used the term Bit Tits....bet Charlie wondered what that meant.......take care all |

I was in the Brigade from Oct/Nov 68 thru about Jul 70. I was in C/4/31, B/4/31, Recon/4/31, C/2/1, XO of HHC Bde., and Assist. Bde S-3 as the BDE TOC Night Duty Officer. I transfered to MACV and operated out of LZ Young near Tam Ky until Oct 70 when I returned home. I operated out of LZ West, LZ Ross, LZ BALDY, Hawk Hill, and LZ Young. Stephen A. Homoki. |

Just an idea, not important. In many forums, the use of GMT (Universal Time) can minimize confusion and eventually the conversion to one's own time zone becomes easier. With all the old curmudgeons here, I wonder if Eastern or other time at the bottom right and on each post might be better. |

I've played around with the time settings, and I believe you can set the time for your log-in to your own timezone. Go to the Member Center and change your individual time setting. I'm still new at this, and if the current setting for the board is not the best way, I'll change it. Let me know how it's working. |

Greetings folks. I was with D Co 3/21 from Nov 71 - Mar 72. I was the platoon leader for Kelso platoon, and for the last month +, the company XO. Glad to see this forum taking off.
Ken, the life membership dues will be in the mail this week. The recent newsletter was great. Cool to see pics of Chu Lai and surroundings as they are now. I was there originally with A Co 1/6, 198th Bde, 23rd Div before I became a Charger.

My name is, Terry Fowler was in C co 4/31, 196th L.I.B. for seven months and was in the battle at Nui Chom, I was 18 at the time, We ate thanksgiving dinner up there afterwards. I joined the recon unit in March and we operated out of LZ West till I left in July of 69. My nickname in Recon was snuffy, because I chewed tobacco. It kept me calm for when we moved around in the jungle at night. I retired in 1991 after twenty-three years of service. I am proud to have served with a wonderful bunch of warriors in our younger days. |

Terry Fowler a BIG Welcome to the forum ... I too was a C 4/31 man...by the time you were on Nui Chom i was on Baldy at our supply tent filling up M16 magazines and looking for M60 barrels to replace the ones that burned up in the battle. I Was in the field from March 68 to Oct 68...it is likely we met up on baldy when you joined the company...if we did meet in the rear I would be the one to advise you and others to get rid of the aftershave lotion etc ... I doubt you remember me but if you do...id love to hear about it...i was also the one that took the mail and supplies out....spent new years eve in Antenna Valley (LZ Sooner?) and i still recall the flares at night celebrating New Years. Ill send you the link to our album (online) i KNOW you will know many on there... thanks PS check your PM message for the link. |
