guys, last year in June 2013 i filed my Diabetes II claim. Today i receved a VA letter that stated i was approved at 10% disability.
I take no medication and it is controlled by dieting, exercise etc. |

| Its all too easy to get scamed by outfits like this who try to get our personal information. Do not give it to them or respond to them. Greg, thanks for posting this for our guys. It could save us a lot of grief. |

Good going Lynn. Key to this is as you said, a good SO is necessary. You can find them other places besides the VFW and the American Legion too. VVA and PVA also have SO's as well. The SO that finally did the job for me was affiliated with a law office that specialized in VA and SSA disability cases.
A good way to pre-qualify Service Officers is to talk to other veterans who have already been successful in getting their disability ratings. Find out if there is a Veterans Outreach Center local to you and get to talking. The folks who run the show there can't legally tell you who is a motivated SO but the vets who go there to unload can and will let you know.
It is also a good idea to have an idea how your state or area stacks up against others in being receptive to claims. Some have a blind eye and a deaf ear. Again, do the research and talk to people. |

I submitted the appropriate VA forms in Feb 2010. Key was a accurate and SPECIFIC diagnosis report from my Dr statinf definitively my diagnosis was diabeteis Type II, need to take medication, need to expand exercise and a diet restriction of 2000 calories. This with my 214/orders and bronse star citation made the Agent Orange determination a slam dunk but it still took 7 months. I added several medical reports of tests showing nerve damage to my hands/fingers and toes/feet..numbness, treated with medications to get additional consideration for neuropraphy. It was accepted and after 9 months it was granted. I had an original 30% disability for knees etc, then 305 for diabetes and 10% for each limb..total1005 but VA compensation math equated to a final 70% total..go figure.
Key was making sure the Dr record used detailed/specific diagnosis vice what the originally stated was" patieny could/might have diabetis"..

| Having recently applied for compensation/disability thru our VFW Service office in Leavenworth VA Hospital, now 9 months later the results are final! Success at last.I can provide my lessons learned for others doing the same. |
