If you are trying to get compensation for something that is not on that list......
GOOD LUCK.  I currently am going through the hoops also.  I had colon cancer back when i was in my 40s (1986)...The Vet advocate at the VA Hospital already pretty much told me NO but Im not giving up so easily.  If you were sprayed or exposed to Agent Orange and had Colon Cancer......email me or PM me about it...i need to learn more about the process you went through...i did get my agent orange "physical"...and no surprise I passed it.

I am basically in the same boat as Frenchie. In 2007 I was diagnosed with Kidney cancer. I had 1 kidney removed and am Stage 4 renal failure now. Applied for disiability thru VA and was denied because it was not listed in the AO deseases. If anyone out there has had the same problem, and any luck with the VA,  I would like to here from you.

Thanks to Admin on this new catagory! I believe this will have a lot of intrest to many "boots on the ground" veterans. I had wriiten earlier that I was awarded 60% for Ischemic Heart Disease in November. Just a note-I had previously been denied for Stage 4 Melanoma cancer in the Lymph System in 1999. The rejection letter just stated that this is not on the list of approved cancers. Its hard to tell if mine will ever be recognized or not but it is comforting to know that they are starting to admit to some of the long term health issues we are dealing with now. Good Luck to you all who are trying to get some help.

Hey guys, I got my decision letter from the VA ...they denied my Agent Orange claim (no surprise).  Colon cancer is not on the list....anyone have any ideas?  They said i could appeal but i would have to prove that agent orange cause my colon cancer (1986)....

They did approve me for my hearing
10% for Tinnitus
10% for Bilateral hearing loss.

It took a year for processing my claim and get a determination.

Frenchie, I know exactly how you feel. I had Kidney cancer 4 yrs ago, had to remove kidney. I filled for disiability on AO and was denied because it wasn'nt on the list. I hired  a VA lawyer to file my appeal. Had nothing to loose, if I win they get 20% of back pay, if I don't win they get nothing. So I figure they will try harder to get their money.
Also have filed for tinnitus and heart desease.

Im gonna talk to the various service reps and see what i can do.  IF that fails I maybe going your route.  The VA pretty much wants ME to prove to them that there is a relationship between my cancer and agent orange,  They are not interested in my young age when it came up nor are they interested that there is no family history of colon cancer.
I am not surprised by the results....i knew of the list when I posted the list a while back.. That list is everything as far as getting recognized .

Don't give up trying.  My father passed away in 1998 from lymphoma and diabetes.   It took my mother 11 years but finally in 2009 the government admitted it was connected to the AO he was exposed to in Vietnam.

Keep at it.  The government can keep saying no, but it only takes them to say yes once.

They can say NO all they want but once its a YES ...compensation is retroactive to the day it was filed ...

The long and short of it is that we are a nuisance and they wished we all disappeared...
I have news for them.....Im not going anywhere .. I am here and I will keep sending the forms and appeal until i run out of ideas....
I managed to located my surgeon and they will send whatever they have...not sure what it might be...i called the hospital and they tell me they dont keep records past 10 yrs...so it will be an uphill fight.....feels like im held back by the "wait-a-minute- vines".

The VA definitely drags their feet and does everything possible to discourage you. Hopefully things will improve based on some of the changes the VA is supposedly making in their review and response to claims. I hope its not a lot of BS.  Anyway, I think Frenchie hit the nail on the head, the VA considers Viet Nam vets a nuisance and would like for all of us to dissappear.  Don't give them the satisfaction. Keep doing everything you possibly can to see that your claims go through and don't stop until you get the benefits you so rightfully deserve!

Bob is right.  makes one wonder if they had an ulterior motive in putting prostrate, diabetes and heart disease on the list.  clog the system with a million claims and they don't have to do a thing but deny, with the odds being we give up or die before we refile another claim.
