C Company 3/21 Ja. 1969-Jan.1970

On March 9th and 10th, C Compnay 3/21 ran into an NVA ambush.  On the 9th, We had 2-KIA and 1-MIA. The MIA was recovered the next day. The 196th Honor Roll has it listed as 3 -KIA for the 9th and this is supported by the Battalion logs. Lt Moore being the 1 MIA.
However, The Battalion logs show that on March 10th, C Company had 1-KIA and 1- MIA. John Peterson was the MIA, and his body was recovered on the 11th. This is confirmed not only in the logs, but I was there when John got hit. However, there is no listing of another KIA on the 10th in the 196th Honor Roll. I sent in my second request to the DOD for the C Co. Morning Reports for this period about two months ago and have heard nothing. My first request was sent in more than a year and a half ago.  From past research, I found that the Morning Reports are the best source for KIA-MIA-WIA names. Is there any way we can confirm who that KIA was on March 10th or if this is a mistake in the logs?

My list shows PFC Darrell Donaldson, LT Fulton Moore the 3rd, and SGT Charles Sturma as KIA’s on the 9th.  I also show SP4 John Peterson on 3/10/69 from C company 3/21.
Are you saying one of these men are missing. Who and from what list.

No, that is not what I'm saying. The list for the 9th is fine. What I'm saying is that there should be one more KIA for the 10th, Peterson and ?.

There was another man killed on 3/10/69, but he was in B company (John Guttmann). The morning reports would keep showing the missing guy until his body was recovered. It depends on WHEN LT Moore’s body was recovered. Remember the Morning Report is done by the company clerk in the rear, first thing in the morning. If the people in the field have not had time to report that the body has been recovered, he would still show MISSING. For the record the 3/21 had the most inaccurate reports in the Brigade. The 3/21 had the most errors and changes or misreported statics over a four year period.

I am beginning to discover these inaccuracies in the 3/21 reports the more and more I research them. Although I have found that the totals for the WIA, KIA,MIA at the end of each day on the Battlaion logs are accurate for the most part.
In this case the Battalion Logs do show that B Company had a KIA also on that day.
I'm beginning to think that the S-3 officer got confused and duplicated the report of the MIAs for C Company. No one I've talked to in C Company recalls two people getting killed on the 10th. Still wish I had the Morning Reports. Can always back track to find out what happened.
Then again nobody remembers three people getting killed on the 9th except for me and the records.
