You are sure right. I got a pic of a poster on my FB page showing August 18. It looks like maybe that was Vietnam War Commemoration Day or some such. So there are two days to ignore. Now that I think of it the Commemoration process is part of the clean-up/cover-up that the Department of Defense has mounted to rewrite history. Good to ignore that one. |

Jim, you are being pre-mature with the date. but odds are you will be right :-( NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 29, 2012, as Vietnam Veterans Day. I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of March, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-sixth. BARACK OBAMA |

Hi Guys Yes we took buses from Devens to Boston! On my bus B Co. 3/21 we had a Hawaiian ukulele player Sgt. Charles Mederos and we sang patriotic songs most of the way. As I got off the bus I noticed the driver had tears running down his face. Now that I think about it he probably was a Vet and knew what our future might bring. Hi Frenchie ur a rascal just like me, but those Cs were just sitting there. Foxtrot Omega Tanner |

Greg We had three MPs in the Advanced Party I still have a lot of contact with one of them. He draws a blank about details. Any ideas from you when the Advanced Party left FT. Devens, how many, when you got there? When myself and several other MPs got off the ships they took us to a staging areas where our vehicles from Devens were waiting and we ran convoys to Tay Ninh. I was in the Advanced Party to Chu Lai in my group was about 90 a plane full I look at the 175th site every so often, I think it tells our story the best of any site. |

Hey guys go to http://175thengineers.homestead.com/HomePage.html this may help your memory. I was not on the boats and I thank my lucky stars, I think. I was supposed to hook up with you guys in Panama, missed it, darn! then again in San Diego, missed it, darn! so I ended up flying over with one of the advance parties and spent the time building TayNinh. I think that was easier than 30 days at sea :-) |

It is sad, but I don't even remember how we got from Devens to the Darby. I remember being on the ship setting at the dock. Do remember the trip, was sea sick most of the time. |

Hi Jim It has been awhile, I also do not remember much about leaving Ft. Devens other than boarding the buses, arriving at the docks, much confusion about boarding the Darby. I guess boarding over 1000 passengers is a lot to deal with. The real confusion that I remember was the first lifeboat drill, most did not know where to go myself included. Seems not many of the originals left, on this forum anyway. Bob Poznanski HHC, MP Platoon 1965-67 |

50 years ago: Just a few days to the big one. There are periods that I remember in great detail, but for some reason getting from Devens to the Darby is not one of them. I would like to hear any memories from the move and the sailing. |
