My search of the 3/21 Battalion logs and the Americal Division logs shows that there was 1 KIA for the 3/21 on March 18th, 1969. That KIA was with C Company 3/21. The Vietnam Wall shows 1 KIA for the 196th on March 18th, 1969, Dale Eisaman. On the 196th LIB Honor Roll Eisaman is listed as being with Alpha Company 3/21. I believe this is in error. Eisaman should be listed as a C Company 3/21 KIA.

Please note: The 196th Honor Roll also shows another KIA for March 18th, 1969 Robert E. Mitchell. On the Vietnam Wall, Robert Mitchell is listed as having served with the 198th LIB.

Charlie Company 3/21 had its reunion this past Veterans Day in Branson. It was a great time and yes all veterans and active duty military are treated well. Yes, Jack a few of us got to march in the parade.

The Duty Roster is hard to make out, but it looks like he arrived in July, 1968.

Sp-4 Donald Guertin is listed as KIA 1/17/69 with Bravo Company 3/21. I have a Duty Roster from October, 1968 that shows Guertin was with Charlie Company 3/21. I aslo know one eyewitness that served with and was good friends with Donald. Rodney Green of C Company 3/21 was there the night Guertin was KIA. Please look into this.

I am beginning to discover these inaccuracies in the 3/21 reports the more and more I research them. Although I have found that the totals for the WIA, KIA,MIA at the end of each day on the Battlaion logs are accurate for the most part.
In this case the Battalion Logs do show that B Company had a KIA also on that day.
I'm beginning to think that the S-3 officer got confused and duplicated the report of the MIAs for C Company. No one I've talked to in C Company recalls two people getting killed on the 10th. Still wish I had the Morning Reports. Can always back track to find out what happened.
Then again nobody remembers three people getting killed on the 9th except for me and the records.

While researching the 3/21 Battalion logs I believe that Earl Snyder may have served with D Company 3/21.
On the 196th Honor Roll Cpl Earl Snyder is listed has having served with C Company 3/21. However, there are no casualties listed for C Company on the Battalion logs for March 12th, 1969. Delta Company 3/21 does show taking a couple of KIA on March 12th, 1969. After doing an internet search I did find some evidence that Earl may have been with Delta 3/21 on the date in question.

No, that is not what I'm saying. The list for the 9th is fine. What I'm saying is that there should be one more KIA for the 10th, Peterson and ?.

On March 9th and 10th, C Compnay 3/21 ran into an NVA ambush.  On the 9th, We had 2-KIA and 1-MIA. The MIA was recovered the next day. The 196th Honor Roll has it listed as 3 -KIA for the 9th and this is supported by the Battalion logs. Lt Moore being the 1 MIA.
However, The Battalion logs show that on March 10th, C Company had 1-KIA and 1- MIA. John Peterson was the MIA, and his body was recovered on the 11th. This is confirmed not only in the logs, but I was there when John got hit. However, there is no listing of another KIA on the 10th in the 196th Honor Roll. I sent in my second request to the DOD for the C Co. Morning Reports for this period about two months ago and have heard nothing. My first request was sent in more than...

Looking for Richard (Dave?) Classick. He served with C Company 3/21 from November, 1968 to November, 1969.  I think he was from California. He was with C Company until sometime in April, 1969. He then transferred to Recon 3/21. After C Company took so many casualties after the Nui Yon Hill battle, he returned to C Company per his request. He was a rifleman.

Gregory, I just finished reading the article. It is very interesting and informative. However, I would question the validity of a statement in the opening paragraph. I don't recall much of an antiwar movement in 1966. My first vivid recollection of the antiwar movement was in 1968 and the Democratic Convention in Chicago. I'm not saying that the author is wrong, but it would interesting to see where this information was gotten in 1966. Some oringinal source material!

Frenchie, you make a good point. That leaves it up to those of us who served in the 196th to tell our stories. If we pound home the positive aspects of what we did, and our own personal Nam experiences, people will get the message. I've been doing my best to do that both on my Facebook page and through my book.

In 1961, two doctors came up with the following criteria for F.U.O.:

A  fever of 101 F

Persisting without diagnosis for three weeks

At least one week in the hospital

The definition I found doesn't specify any of these or all of these.

Other than the TV program, I don't recall a movie being made about the 196th, but there should be one made. There is no shortage of good stories or plot lines.

Dave Bukowski is listed as being with A Company 3/21. He was actually with C Company 3/21. If you need documentation, I have the C CO duty roster with Dave's name on it. I also have the morning reports for the 13 through 15 May, 1969. Interestingly Dave's name appears on the morning report on the first day of the battle. However, when the bodies were recovered his name is absent from the list. Must have been a clerical error. I also knew Dave personally and have others who can testify he was with C Company. Have photos also.

 Thank you,
    Tom

Joe,
Dave (David) Bukowski KIA May 13th, 1969 is listed as being with A Company 3/21. He was actually in C Company 3/21.

Lt. Fulton Moore KIA March 9th, 1969 listed as 196th LIB was with C Company 3/21

Chuck (Charles) Sturma KIA March 9th, 1969  also listed as 196th was with C Company 3/21.

Thanks Joe.

There are a few others from C Company 3/21 who are listed as being with the 196th, but not with C Compnay 3/21.

The 3/21 Gimlets have been deployed to South Afghanistan. This information comes from the current Battalion Chaplain. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. May the Gimlet tradition of honor and service continue long into the future.

Is there any we this can be corrected? It's a shame these men are not listed with their units.

Ken, How do I go about having a correction made?  David Bukowski is listed as being with Alpha Company 3/21. I have documentation and eyewitnesses that place him in Charlie Company 3/21.

Thanks for the post Fletch.  At that time, many newspapers in the U.S. ran a story either about "Million Dollar Hill" or the "Alpha Company" incident that took place during that operation.  It was a big time event that few people know about. Mostly because Noonan got killed. The 196th took a lot of causalties in that one. The 2nd NVA Division got beat up pretty bad too.  SP-4 Doria, the LTC's RTO, had been an RTO with C Company 3/21 earlier that year. He thought he was getting a safe job when he went to Battalion. You never know!
