We would keep the safety on and, as Jim mentioned, it took only a split second to switch it off. We also used the barrel end to pull each other up dikes and river banks. The sight ramp was a great handle to grab on to. I can't ever remember thinking about or asking if the safety was on. A scary thought all these years later. |

The remark about the open flash suppressor reminded me that there were at least a couple of those still in my unit in 69. I recall someone using it to break bands on a crate. |

Wow, Fletch, I thought those would have been pretty much weeded out by then. But then, I had mine the whole time I was there, right through Sept., 68. I cut the wire bands on many cases of C rats, something you couldn't do with the later M 16s, and a use I'll bet the designers at Colt never dreamed of. |
