Warren, your talking about Khakis brings back a fuzzy warm one.  I left Vietnam in my Khaki shorts and khaki shirt and hat.  But evidently they phased this uniform out while we were in Nam.  I landed at Travis in the middle of the nite, half drunk from a bottle of Crown bought in Guam.  Hoardes of REF's came out of nowhere to rag on me for being out of uniform and treating me like an all around shit.  I was in the middle of telling them what a bunch of #$%#@@#$%% they were when a couple of serious MP's showed up and took me away.  As soon as we were out of they started laughing and pounding me on the back and welcoming me home.  took me to the mess hall for a big steak dinner and then to the temp barracks for a good nite sleep.  Got my new uniform the next day :-)

Unless the Army changed the rules, we were to wear our khaki’s or a class A uniform when we traveled. Never heard or saw khaki shorts.  Didn’t you guys go on R&R?  When I returned to the states( AUG 67), I had the Jungle Fatigues I was issued when I left Chu Lai, four shirts and a couple of pairs of pants I had bought in Hong Kong and my jungle boots in my almost empty duffel bag.  They did give us a small bag with toilet articles.  I was wearing my short SLEEVE Khaki’s and low quarters.

That's what I remember, too, Joe.  I left VN September 68 wearing fatigues. At Ft. Lewis, I was issued a class A uniform.  I do remember wearing the short sleeve khaki uniform with open neck while stationed stateside.
