Ralph i dont know about you but for many many years i would believe anything the Gov , a member of congress, a lawyer, a doctor, a dentist , a minister, a teacher, a judge  etc would say.
Now i question every one of them and the only ones i believe is my immediate family ..

Lets not forget the guys who were lost or misplaced or worse at Arlington National Cemetery.

That I looked up Rep. Mac Thornberry of Texas to find that he is a Republican is just evidence of my political bias.

What is not part of my bias is this;  (maybe not)  When you contact your rep or whatever, it would be a very rare instance where he actually did the research on the missing man.  The representative has a large staff who are the ones charged with doing the actual work on just about everything.   However, the rep could do better if his staff were trained in the kind of work ethic that require them to see a job through to the end and assure their boss that it was complete and accurate.  In the end, it's the rep's ass at election time and his utilization of his staff is a refletcion of what goes on in his head.  Never mind that at least a third of the rep's time and staff is whoring for campaign funds.

These incidents are very sad, frustrating and infuriating, to say the least.  The Pres. and  for that matter, just about every politician, could care less about veterans. You can't believe what they say. Its just inconceivable what happened on Memorial Day, of all days, at the Wall. To not allow family and friends to visit and pay respects to their loved  ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country is a stab in the heart and an insult  to those who wished to pay their respects and to all Vietnam veterans.   As much as the politicians want you to believe, things have not changed much for Vietnam veterans.  The day we rotated back to the world we were spit upon, abused verbally and physically and not accepted.  To this day, I believe we are still not fully accepted and do not  receive the respect that veterans who served in wars and conflicts before us and after us do.

This was sent to me.........

From an Academy grad; 204 missions over North Vietnam in an F-4... ..

Hi All,
I just wanted to pass on a little info in case some of you were not aware of this.

May 23rd, 2012 was the Air force Academy graduation ceremony. My friend from Texas had just arrived and we drove down the road to watch the Thunderbirds air show after the ceremony was finished. Most of you know Pres. Obama spoke at the ceremony and handed out the diploma's. When this finished it was time for the Thunderbirds to fly. There was one maneuver then they disappeared. A man standing by me called a friend at Peterson Field and found out that the air show was halted because Obama wanted to leave. A helicopter soon appeared and flew around in a circular pattern above where we were - basically doing reconnaissance as Obama's motorcade was exiting the Air Force Academy. He was going to Denver to do some more campaigning since Colorado is a swing state. After he left the Thunderbirds came back and continued the show for the graduates.

Think about this. Obama comes to a graduation, speaks etc. then decides to leave before the Thunderbirds can complete their air show. They had to fly around, & waste fuel. Thousands of people - the graduating cadets, parents, friends, observers in the vicinity parked in lots waiting to see them fly, inconvenienced, so Obama - his "highness' could leave to go campaign in Denver!

How disrespectful of EVERYONE in attendance. It would have taken only about 20-30 minutes more time to stay until the fly-over was finished thereby honoring the graduates, Thunderbirds and the military in general. However, this narcissistic disgrace of a 'Commander -in-Chief" had to inconvenience everyone and leave interrupting the ceremony fly-over because everything is about him. I was disgusted by this and so was everyone else standing around near us. I hope this info gets passed on so others can learn how disrespectful this Pres. is toward the military. Not too many who witnessed this will be voting for him.

Air force graduation story is not true according to Air Force spokesman.

Regardless of our opinions on politics, we should be careful about what we read on the Internet. I've tried to fact-check much of the political retoric from both sides and have found an aspect of propaganda in much of it. We surely wouldn't listen to Hanoi Hanna, and we shouldn't base our political opinions on untruths, no matter how much we want to believe them.

I hope the election puts a stop to the deluge of negative and untrue reports like this one.
Is there a refutation of the Memorial Day/Wall story somewhere?
I have a friend who was there and dosen't remember it that way.
I might have been likely to believe a made-up Romney story, but I never saw one.

Welcome home veterans, a day late.

The Memorial Day story has some truth to it. It just depends how you interpret it whether you are outraged or not.
Both President Obama and Vice-President Biden and their wives attended the ceremony. Naturally the security was unprecedented for the occasion, not like a typical Veteran's Day when NO president attends (I've never seen a President there when I attended).
The occasion was the kick-off of the honoring of the 50th anniversary of the start of the Vietnam War, so there was a good reason for him to be there.
I might be pissed off if I was only there for a short time and didn't get to go up to the wall, so I can understand the feelings; however, I'm proud that he took the time for us at all.
By the way, more back VA claims have been handled by this administration than any other, the problem is that there are so many new claims the totals continue to rise.

I will tell this one more time. I and a friend from the 11 Armored Cav placed a 196th wreath on Friday about 1900 (7 PM). Our wreath was next to the Wolfhounds (2/27-25 INF).  I have pictures to prove it.  All the wreaths were there on Saturday and Sunday.  Not in the center like in past years, but off to the side.  ALL WREATHES AND MEMENTOES WERE PICKED AND TRASHED BY MONDAY MORNING.  I returned with my friend (LT Ted Hall) on Monday Memorial Day. Obama held his 16 minute photo opp about 1300 (1PM). It was 1545 (3:45 PM) when they started to allow veterans up to the WALL and we were able to place the 11 A CAV wreath.

Just a fact
May 11, 1961 President Kennedy approves sending 400 Special Forces troops and 100 other U.S. military advisers to South Vietnam. (do the math 51 years ? )

Operation Chopper occurred on January 12, 1962 and was the first time US forces participated in major combat in the Vietnam War. This operation heralded a new era of air mobility for the U.S. Army, which had been slowly growing as a concept since the Army formed twelve helicopter battalions in 1952 as a result of the Korean War. These new battalions eventually formed a sort of modern day cavalry for the Army.

Most of you already know that the momentos left by vets are collected and preserved. You may not be aware of the scope of this effort.  Visitors to the memorial began leaving sentimental items at the memorial at its opening. One story claims that this practice began during construction, when a Vietnam veteran threw the Purple Heart his brother received posthumously into the concrete of the memorial's foundation. Several thousand items are left at the memorial each year.

Items left at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial are collected by National Park Service employees and transferred to the NPS Museum and Resource Center, which catalogs and stores all items except perishable organic matter (such as live flowers) and unaltered US flags. The flags are redistributed through various channels.

The largest item left at the memorial was a sliding glass storm door with a full-size replica "tiger cage". The door was painted with a scene in Vietnam and the names of US POWs and MIAs from the conflict.

Other items in collection include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with the license plate HERO, a plain brown teddy bear which was dressed by other unconnected visitors, a 6' abstract sculpture titled "After the Holocaust", and an experimental W. R. Case "jungle survival knife" of which only 144 were made. It also contains the Medal of Honor of Angelo Liteky, who renounced it in 1986 by placing the medal at the memorial in an envelope addressed to then-President Ronald Reagan.

If you have left (or will leave) a momento, it will likely wind up in this collection.

Joe,
I know what happened to you and our wreath, and that's why I said the story had merit. Other than that, I guess it depends upon political leanings whether people are understanding, or outraged, at the President taking the time to even acknowledge the Vietnam Veterans.

Fletch,
During our 196th reunion the last time we were in DC, we placed a laminated card at each panel containing a 196th casaulty, with their names and the line number. Those cards became part of the permanent collection. When I was in Vietnam back in 2010, I brought back a piece of Nui Ba Den from the site where my platoon was ambushed, and left it at the Wall. The ambush was 46 years ago today, Nov 13, 1966, when we lost Mike Macarell and Ed Piantkowski. We lost Nelson Pulsifer the following day when we went back to recover Mike and Ed. The third platoon has never forgotten them.
