I was listening to the radio the other night and the guy said that our KIAs were much greater and many names were left off the Wall because guys who were severely injured and evacuated to another country and did not survive were not counted as KIA because they did not die in-country.
It does not sound right. |

I think that with todays uproar over the wars we have had that this would not be true. Some news source would have picked up on this and i am sure that a full blown Senate investigation would be instigated. |

I couldn't find a source for the rules that apply to eligibility for listing on the Wall. I would like to find them.
If you look at the statistics for the names on the Wall
http://thewall-usa.com/summary.asp
you find over 500 names added after 1975, usually considered the "end" of the war, with 93 added after 1997.
This seems to confirm that some injuries and wounds that led to later deaths were counted as in-county KIA's.
Remember them all tomorrow. |

I gotta believe that all those names were added because someone spoke up on their behalf ..at some point in time there will be NO space left for addtional names and i cant help wondering what they will do then

I have to agree with you, Frenchie, about someone pushing to get those names added. Hopefully, the time will never come when we need additional space. Too many of our Brothers are listed there as it is. |

Also, let us never forget all our fallen Brothers whose names are listed on the Wall. I will always remember my MP Brothers and friends Sgt. George Mussenden and PFC Jerry Smith, both of who were KIA February 29, 1968. May they all rest in peace. |

The “WALL” guys (Bruce Swander) that I got help on our list from, are the one’s checking the list. Some of information they are checking is where they died. On our list I have a few that died in the Philippines. One I know of contracted a skin infection, was evacuated to the Philippines and then died. As you saw on Monday at Obama’s photo opp they continue to add names. |

Here is a website that lists the eligibility rules for inclusion on the Wall. http://www.touchthewall.org/AddNames.html
It states: In order for a Service member to have his or her name added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, one of the following criteria must be satisfied: *** 6.5.2.1. Died in Vietnam between November 1, 1955, and December 31, 1960; or *** 6.5.2.2. Died in the defined combat zone on or after January 1, 1961; or
*** 6.5.2.3. Died as a result of wounds (combat or hostile related) sustained in the combat zone; or *** 6.5.2.4. Died while participating in, or providing direct support to, a combat mission immediately en route to or returning from a target within the defined combat zone. *** 6.5.3. For clarification purposes on the above criteria, there is no requirement that the Service member was killed in action or that the cause of death was combat related. |
