New members to the FORUM will have to be validated by the Administrator (Me), before they can post messages or view member information.
Now that we have settled down in the numbers of members, we are getting more SPAMMERS trying to get on than 196th members, so I've changed the account creation method to catch them before they get on and do damage.
I've banned over 450 SPAMMERS so far, and it will be easier to keep them out by checking them before they get on.
If anyone hears of someone trying to sign on with a new FORUM account, and is having trouble, please have them e-mail me at Editor196"at"196th.org. |

Thanks for doing this , Ken. I wonder if an L-shaped ambush would work. |

Thanks Ken. I would have never guessed that there were so many spammers out there trying to infiltrate the Forum! What do they hope to accomplish by getting on? This might be a stupid question, but I really don't know since I'm not very computer literate. |

Unless you have hidden your e-mail address in your profile, they can harvest e-mail addresses for purposes of sending spam. Sometimes they just put ads on the forum, mostly for porn (we've deleted several on here.). The more times their website address appears on the web, the higher they rank on search engines like Google, so they just write their web address a couple of hundred times in a Forum posting. |
