Dan, An old timer (11B) told our google group that he doubts there was such a battle or movie...i tend to lean that way unless you can give us more details such as a time frame and where this happened. Perhaps youre talking about an individual unit (company size) rather than the Brigade (196th). Even then im not familiar with such a movie...

Dan, I don't think this ever happened at the Brigade level. Maybe, as Frenchie mentioned, you're thinking about a Co. size unit. Some of these were in pretty heavy firefights. |

Wasn't there a big battle in 67 in the Valley in front of LZ center Arty and Lz West in 67where a lot of troops were killed, Arvns also? Isn't that why 3/21 named D Co Black Death after their fallen C.O.? May be wrong. |

Dan, here is a pretty good list to peruse for a memory jog. http://srufaculty.sru.edu/derrick.pitard/vietnamfilms.htm or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Vietnam_War_films
Plus, didn't they make a TV movie, about firebase Mary Ann? When we first got there we did Attleborro, Cedar Falls and Junction city, all of which were the largest involvements at the time. I don't remember much after that involving the whole Americal or 196th. From the beginning we had a black cloud over our heads during our large movements seems we were always where we shouldn't be, like in the middle of everything! I wonder if we didn't have the ignominy of having more commanders and leaders relieved of duty than any other outfit? |

I think my wife watched it sometimes but my shields would go up & I'd blank out any time it was on so I never saw an episode. |

Precisely why I couldn't watch it at the time. Not that I would have realized or admitted it at the time. |

Other than the TV program, I don't recall a movie being made about the 196th, but there should be one made. There is no shortage of good stories or plot lines. |

I dont think the public wants to hear about the 196th LIB ..they have been brainwashed into being groupies of the Marines, 1st Air Cav and any airborne unit and now of course the Navy Seals and Delta Force or whatever their counterparts are known as. Now if it is a negative story then yes.....theyll beat each other up to do it. Just my 10 cent worth (inflation).
