I'm not sure how long the Burning Worm decals have been available, but I got one at the Denver reunion in 1993. It has been prominently displayed on the back window of my Pathfinder ever since. Not only has it not generated any "Welcome Homes," nobody has ever mentioned it. |

I have one in the back window of my 64 Fairlane along with an ADVA shield and the 31st infantry polar bear decal. Never had a comment on them yet. |

Jim & Jack, I've had the same experience. I have had the 196th decal on my window since the late 90's and no one has ever asked about it or mentioned it. I laid low about my military and VN service until the late 90's when I got a surprise e-mail at work from Gary Heale, who was a friend in my plt, asking if I was the Bob Kotch who was with the 196 MP Plt in 67-68. That message from Gary finally brought me out of my shell. There were people I worked with for over 20 yrs and they had no idea that I served in the military! |

Fletch, cool car to have the decal in. I'll bet that you get a lot of comments and questions about the Fairlane! |

I also have an ADVA decal in my window and I have never been asked about that, either. Now that I think about it, I have never seen another car with either the 196th or the AMERICAL decals. I've seen a lot of 1st CAV & Screaming Eagles decals, but none of ours. |

I have the 196 sticker on all my cars, even one on my motor home. Have never been asked about them. Have had other vets blow horn and wave. Have WV purple heart lis. plate on car, that gets a good bit of attention with the police forces. I think it has even saved me a few speeding tickets. I guess it has some perks that come with it. We know who we are, that is all that matters. Welcome home brothers. |

I have a huge Infantry Decal (with A CIB) on my driver side window that gets a lot of attention. But the 196th & ADVA decals on the corners of my windshield never get any attention at all. Also have them in rear window.

Larry, you hit the nail right on the head. Even if no one knows or asks about our decals, we know what they stand for and who we are. That's what is important. Welcome home! |

From what others have told me, even fellow vets, I don't think anyone recognizes our patch as a military outfit, much less a vietnam outfit. We were early in the war and last to leave but were never featured anywhere like the 1st Cav, Big Red 1, 101, et cetera. plus we never made it into any of the Vietnam war movies, thank God! Unfortunately those that recognize the Americal also tie it to Calley........ |
