Hi my nane is Danny and I helped put the 196th togeather at Devens, I was in a Ord. Co. at the time, me and 2 or 3 others went to the MP Co. there and lost all contact reguarding the unit. I have been told that there is a movie about a battle that the unit was in when it was all most wiped out, if you know of the movie pleas let me know and if you know of any one that was in the Ord. Co. I spoke about please give them my email add. dan6@msn.com and in the subject pox put "196-th" Jeep.
Thank you Danny.

Although the 196th had some rough days, there was never a time when the unit "was almost wiped out."
The unit as a brigade consisted of over 3000 soldiers. I think the most we lost at one time was due to a helicopter crash in March 1971 when we lost 30 or more at one time.
You can download a listing of the 196th KIA's by date from the HONOR ROLL tab on the HOME page. Just quick review will show some significant dates, like 6/11/69 when we lost 18, and 8/26/70 when we lost 27, but we never lost the entire brigade.

From the Casualty Logs

May 1968     83 KIA     33 from 3/21 and 26 from the 2/1 and 17 from 4/31
                               and 5 from F Troop 1 from 82 A and 1 BDE

Jan 1968     76 KIA     39 from 3/21 and 26 from 2/1  7 from 4/31  3 from 82,  1 BDE

Aug 1969     67 KIA     38 from 4/31 and 23 from 3/21 (plus others)

Feb 1968     50 KIA     26 from 2/1 and 8 from 4/31  7 from F troop (plus others)

March 1969    47 KIA     21 from 3/21 and 18 from 2/1 (plus others)

These numbers can be a little off because it’s hard to identify some of the casualty dates.
