Wow!!! talk about green banana's and pineapples, we used to peel the green banana's and fry them in grease, in our steel pots. same with the pineapples. Our ARVN interpeter taught us that trick and they tasted great.

Lloyd, great picture! I don't remember seeing pineapples and only vaguely recall bananas. Once when on river patrol we stopped at a small island and some locals made us rice and fish heads, complete with eye balls. The rice had a lot of brown and black bits of insects and probably other creatures in it. I don't think they were purposely added. Needless to say, we didn't eat much. I think I still have the chop sticks mamasan gave me to use that day. |

Just thought I'd mention it, the chop sticks I was given to eat the rice & fish heads with are not bamboo as you might expect, but are aluminum, made from US military scrap metal, probably from one of our downed helicopters. |
