on a recent post i mentioned that my friend who needs cataract surgery just heard that he now has a date for the surgery. This will happen in Sept 2014. This is ONE year from the date he started the process.
Todayyyyyy he got another call giving him the option of going to another doctor for the procedure but the long and short version of this is that he would have to start the process again with the private doctor...paper work, taking his file to the other doctor, finding a doctor etc etc and there is NO guarantee that this would all be completed before his Sept 2014 date for the cataract surgery with the VA. So he figured his waiting is almost over and he will stick to the Sept date surgery with the VA.
Im mentioning this in case someone has a similar issue with longggggg waits....if you do not have a date set up for whatever procedure you need, it may be faster to call the VA and request that to go to a non VA facility on the VAs money...im thinking its only a call and worth a try.
Good Luck

"Investigators also found that the VA routinely neglected its responsibility to stop disability payments to military reservists while they were receiving "drill pay" for training exercises. It is not uncommon for service members to leave the military, begin receiving disability pay from the VA, then enter the reserves.
Federal law, however, requires cutting disability by the amount of drill pay."
Well, which is it? Cut or stop? And a "not uncommon" practice?
There are some interesting things in the article, but overall is inadequately researched, poorly written and intended to inflame rather than inform.
