 Disability rating appointment finially (currently 1 views) |

Have gotten 2 calls within the last two days informing me of Dr. appointments concerning the PTSD and hearing loss claims filed in 2010. Seems funny as to being sent to an ourside source when the VA has been treating me for both conditions and also furnished me with hearing aids just last month. Anyway, will see what happens. Any bits of wisdom appreciated. Right now I'm rated at 60% due to ischemic heart, so doubt is these new ones will raise me up any on disability.

| The opinion of an outside, non VA shrink carries a lot of weight on a PTSD claim. Think about this: It is our usual state of mind to minimize our conditions because we have been taught from birth to be strong and manly and bear the pain. This visit to the shrink will be a waste if you deny your actual inner turmoil. This is a shrink you are visiting, drag out that bad attitude and the nest of snakes. If you are sitting there being all stoic and uncommunicative, the shrink can't assess a damn thing and the paper will just reflect that you are just another lump. |

Hi Teacher, easy as pie to figure out your combined percentage, all you need is a graphing scientific calculator and in actularian :-)
"On a technical note: If an actual combined evaluation ends with a fraction that equals or exceeds 0.5, round up to the nearest degree. If a whole number ends with a digit that equals or exceeds five, then round up to the nearest number divisible by 10. Otherwise, round the combined evaluation down to the nearest number divisible by 10. Example: A combined evaluation of 54.5 percent should be raised to 55 percent, and then adjusted upward to 60 percent.
Using the Combined Ratings Table, 10 combined with 10 is 19, and then 19 plus 10 equals 27, which is rounded up to 30.
But when you have multiple disabilities, and each one is rated differently, things get complicated. As an example, to find the combined evaluation for a 30 percent disability and a 20 percent disability: Find the 30 percent disability from the left side of the table, and move your finger across the page until you reach 20 percent. The combined evaluation is 44 percent, which must be converted to the nearest degree divisible by 10, which is 40 percent. I did this, and the correct evaluation is 40 percent."
Or you can go to http://www.vietnow.com/pagesvaclaims/combinedevaluations.htm once you get your new ratings. I figure you to get about a 10-15 pt bump. But who knows.....

| Hell Greg, I always thought they used a dart board and nailed a pie plate in the middle so only the low scores on the outside ever got counted. Unless you bring in outside help and then they remove the pie plate and toss the dart while blindfolded. |

Well, after waiting for 2 years, maybe I can see the downhill side now. Realize there are guys who have been waiting longer. Was told they are sending people to outside services inorder to relieve the backlog at the VA. Will see what happens. Got another letter, so have a C & P each week for the next 3 weeks. Guess when the system starts working, it gets working.
Also got a letter concerning my dd214 correction. Told me due to the overload of requests for updated discharges, it will take about a year to hear from them. |

| Don, after I got my C&Ps all done, it took about 5 months to get my new rating. Good luck. I am still waiting on answer from my appeal. I hired a law firm, they filed my appeal in Feb 2012. |

OK guys, here is the final scoop. Got a package of papers about 2 weeks ago asking me for stuff and to turn in a new release of information. I gave them copies of what had been sent to me from the VA, since everything I have had done has been through them, no outside Doctors. Got a call from the VFW and a letter from the VA--50% PTSD, 10% tinnenitis, 0% on hearing loss,0% on unemployability. Bumps me from 60% to 80%. VFW said they would file an appeal for the unemployability. Will have to see what happens now.
