This chart is for ONE disability and how much that ONE disability would get you monthly....if you know your TOTAL % of disability you should be able to go down the chart and see how much a month you are going to get or are getting.
http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/Rates/comp01.htm
This chart is for MORE than one disability...start here
http://www.vvaarizona.org/combined_disability.php
just found out that with the V.A. 30+20 does not equal 50. It equals 40 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I also just found out that if you are 50% (or greater) disabled, you will receive your medication FREE...that is what i found out when i spoke to the eligibility worker at the VA Hosp. FACT not rumor . Maybe everyone already knows this..
This will is more important in the case where currently a person has a disability lower than 50% and the VA approves an additional disability and the combined disability is 50% or greater as a result of this new (approved) disability.

Frenchie, thanks for posting this. I'm sure a lot of us will find this very interesting. I would think it would give some incentive not to give up in trying to get a claim approved. |

I wonder how they figure how much a spouse is worth? And why it varies. |

Frenchie Using the above percentages of 30% and 20%, the first calcuation is 100-30 = 70%. Then they use the 70% remainder times the second rating of 20% which is 14% which rounds off to only 10% (a number of 0-4 rounds off to 0 a number of 5 or more rounds off to 10), which gives you a rating of 30% + 10% =40%. That is my understanding of the system.

Hi Bob, thanks for the explaination of how they calculate for more than one disability. I understand the math, but not the policy behind it. Its like your'e being penalized for being unfortunate enough to have more than one diability, which, by the way, were incurred through your service to our country. Its a lousy policy. Each disability should be evaluated on its own merit and should recieve the % rating appropriate for that disability. A previous disabilty should not even be considered. They should be totally independent determinations, standing on their own. That way 30 + 20 would and should = 50. Based on the 30 + 20 example, why should someone who has the same disability as you, except its his 1st disability and its your 2nd, get 20% and you get only 10%? It makes no sense to me. Again, you are being penalized for having more than one disability. Its bad enough that you have to suffer and live with two disabilities, but then to be financially penalized is just not right. |

Got that fuzzy math disability rating today. I was rated at 30%, just got 30% for PTSD and that adds up to 50%. Who knew all those math classes i took, they taught addition wrong. Is it a fact that at 50% you can get your meds for nothing thru the VA? That would help a whole lot. |

Thanks Jim, that helps a lot. Right now I pay for 2 prescription plans which is required by my previous employer which can get expensive. |
