My son David has had IgA nephropathy (Bergers disease) for 20 years. With all of the spraying of Agent Orange and God knows what else on the Tay Ninh base camp and the jungles and forests of Tay Ninh Province, have any other children of 196ers gotten this kidney disease?

Frenchie,
I think that the only way they can tell if you have ischemic heart disease is to do an angiogram - where they put dye into your system and then scope it out.
I had a mild chest pain in June 2010 which went away within a minute. Then came back later that day and still lasted only about a minute. No pain radiating down my arm (typical for a heart attack) and no pain in my jaw. So as a precautionary measure, I took an asprin. That evening I was completely exhausted and the pain returned and didn't go away. So I had my wife drive me to the hospital (not a good idea if you live far from the hospital) and they did an angiogram then ended up with 2 stents. I had a 90% and a 99% blockage in the artery. They told me that this was ischemic heart disease.
I filed a claim with the VA in August 2010 and am still waiting on a decision.

Thanks for the info Doc. I recently had an angiogram and i came out good. Im a happy camper. I think the doctor called it "age appropriate" ....sounds like political double talk but it worked |

If you're classed as a six, then you have something in the works. Even an 8 gets bennies but has to pay some. |

Yesterday i called our local Vet clinic. Talked to a very nice lady. Told her that i had not heard anything about my status. I told her i was a Nam vet and she asked if i had done blood work. When i replied no she could not believe that i was never contacted. She immediately got me in touch with another person and i am now in the system for my first appointment to get tested for a variety of ailments. So if you apply and do not hear anything call and talk to someone. |

I am presently drawing 10% for type 2 diabetis. Have applied for ischemic heart almost a year ago. Had triple by-pass in 1987 and pacemaker implanted in 2004. Claim was filed in FL initally at a reunion for VN veterans in Melbourne. Claim was sent to St Pete, FL; forwarded to Cleveland, ended up in Auburn, WA. Was later told by DAV in Cincinnati that it should have been filed in WVA and lastly talked to a DAV rep on October 6, 2011 and he indicated he would return to Cleveland on Oct 17 and check it out and give me a call. I received a call from WA in Feb 2011 that the heart claim could be forwarded to the board for decision and the remainder of my claim would be decided after I had a VA medical evaluation. This was all done in May 2011. Still no word on ANY PART OF THE CLAIM. Inquuires indicate it is travelling to all the different VA regional offices and haven't "caught-up" with each other. My question is simply....with the availability of computers and all the talk about "fast trac", why is it taking so long to marry everything up and make a decision? Bill -HHC 3/82 arty 66-67. |

Bill, I filed for ischemic heart desease in Nov 2010, had my C&P in June 2011. Haven't heard anything yet. So much for Fast Track. Must just be another lie told by the VA. |

have you called them or have you contacted a service rep to check on it? nothing happens fast...for my loss of hearing claim , it took many months and probably 4 hearing test (they couldnt find the other 3). In the end I now have 2 hearing aids and a 20% disability

Thanks Larry and frenchie. To answer your question...YES! I have called numerous times and aI'm told it has not gone to the board for a decision, and that is all they say. Seems strange when I read the other day about 84,000 claims had been decided due to Agent Orange. They indicate the claim is in the Development Stage, meaning No Deceision has been made.. I agree Larry....Fast Trac or Track is a misnomer for sure. Thank you guys for your service in 4/31 and 2/1. I'm sure we sent a lot of steel your way in support of your operations. Glad we could assist. Bill 66-67 HHB 3/82 |

We got LOT of help from the arty guys on West and Ross in May of 68...it landed where it was supposed to ... well done!!
I had filed a claim back in march of this year (i think) for my colon cancer. I had that problem back in 86(i was in my 40s at the time) and Friday i got their decision that it would not be approved. They basically want ME to proved there is a relationship between my being sprayed with agent orange and my having colon cancer back in 86. Monday im camping out at the VA Rep ive been talking to. I was not too confident of getting an approval because it is not on the list of illnesses and disease presumed to be caused by A.O. not giving up yet.

Best of luck with it, Frenchie and do not give up. I don't understand VA. A.O. is such an insidious and harmful toxin that any type of cancer should be eligible for a claim to be approved. Bill, Larry and all you guys with claims in the works for ages, keep the pressure on VA. I think all the talk from VA about fast trac and the 80,000+ claims that have been decided is all a bunch of BS. It seems nothing has really changed and that VA is still dragging their feet and making it as difficult as possible to get claims approvrd. I guess, from their point of view, their stratgy is working because every day there is less of us and in 20 years or so they won't have to worry about us pestering them, The Vietnam war always was very unpopular, and in spite of what a lot of people (not most Vietnam vets) think, it still is. We are still treated worse than any other group of vets. |

Finally heard something from the VA - got a 60% disability for ischemic heart disease. Applied a year ago. And I've heard that here in Illinois, we have a one of the slowest responses times from the VA.
