Lt.William Scurry FO C/3/82 1966-67 I was his recon sgt but was sent back to guns. I think he and our rto gave me a ride to catch the freedom bird. I never knew what happened to him. |

George, your name doesn't sound familiar to me but you say you were with C-3/82 66-67. Do you remember when your were his recon sgt. You might have been after me (call sign Masher62X). I was the RTO during parts of Attleboro, Cedar Falls and Gadsden. A Sgt. Baker was our recon sgt. I fail to remember his first name but he was good people. I'm sorry that I can not shed any information on his whereabouts but I wish you all the best in your search.

masher 62X, I was with scurry from Devens and first few months in nam but got sent back to guns. Now that you mention it baker could have been my replacement, I have been going to the reunions for the last few years but there are so few of us redlegs there. let me know what you have on scurry. I hope to see you at the reunion next Sept. |

George, Ok this is a conspiracy to drive me nuts, isn't it? I was with C-3/82 from 23Oct65 through 15Mar67 when I was transferred to B-3/34 9th Inf. Div. and landed in the Riverine Force (floating artillery). For the life of me I simply cannot remember you, I'm sorry to say. Did you come to the battery as a staff member or one of the trainees such as myself?
I don't have any current info on Lt. Scurry. All I know is that Lt. Scurry is listed as being in B-3/82 in the book "Vietnam The Second Year - A Pictorial Review of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade (separate)". I believe that this book was written after the brigade went North in 1966 because I and a number of other battery members are not listed for C battery. The kicker is this: it states "A pictorial review of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in the Republic of Vietnam from August 1966 to May 1967. Produced by the Brigade Information Officer". Well I certainly was part of C battery during most of that time period and unfortunately I spent the majority of 14Aug1966 with Allen Rock and Michael Compton on a detail. Both of these fine gentlemen were killed by a mortar round that night around 2000 Hrs. May they rest in peace.
Anyway, it's great to hear from a battery member who was at Ft. Devens while I was there.
Do you know that our old battery area and the remainder of the 82nd artillery battery areas are now just a memory? Have new buildings there. Very nice modern area. |

I came to C 3/82 from the 11th armored cav. at ft. mead, md. and was assigned as Scurry's recon sgt and also traning nco for C btry. I went over as advance party to nam and the two guys you mentioned may have been with us, I remember having to chase a couple of guys away from those long alum. boxes at the saigon airport,it may have been them or maybe my memorie is a bit fuzzy. Do you remember Flynn the cook or York from the #2 gun? Do you attend the reunions?. Good to hear from you and keep in touch .My email georges76484@yahoo.com and ph# 940-659-8501, I live in Palo Pinto, Tx. |
