Hi,

My Father, MSG David F. Sterling, served as Commo Sergeant for Brigade HHC during the brigades first year in Vietnam.  He passed away in 1998 of cancer related to Agent Orange exposure.  I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who served with him or spent some time in Tay Ninh or Chu Lai during the Brigades first tour.  He never was able to talk much about his Vietnam service but it deeply affected him for the rest of his life.

God bless you all for your service to our country.

Regards,
Dave Sterling

A guy who served with Pop sent me these two pictures of him.  As always I am eager to talk with anyone who may have known my dad.

Hi Dave, I did not know your dad, but sorry for your loss.  Were you aware that the 196th had year books?  The first two issues should cover the times of your Dad.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for your sentiments.  Yes I have both yearbooks among Dads effects.

By the way speaking of yearbooks I recently scanned the entire 2nd year book for one of Pop's friends.  If anyone would like a copy for themselves just drop me an email at rdsterling@comcast.net and i'll send it out to you.

If you send me a copy (see my e-mail under Newsletter editor) I'll put it on the 196th website. We sell a copy, but probably won't print any more after the current ones are sold. I've put the First Year book on the web already.

Be glad to.  I just finished sending them.  Pages 1 to A28 divided up over 5 emails.

Greetings Dave, please except our most sincere condolences regards the loss of your father. I did not know him personally that I can recall but I was assigned with the HHC 4/31 out of Chu lai 1967 / 1968.

I would certainly be interested to learn more of the year books you speak of. Did not know that existed. If you have any additional info on them would appreciate knowing more. Thanks and good luck with your search regards your father.

I can be reached at ; chklemmer@charter.net Thanks.

Dave, I echo Henry's sentiment regarding the loss of your father, and our brother in arms. Also, thanks for the info on the yearbooks.
