Colonel Robert (Sean) Berg was commissioned in 1995 in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Chemical Corps after graduating from the University of California, Davis with a degree in Environmental Toxicology. He also served in 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment as a battalion chemical officer before attending the Infantry Officer Advanced Course and the Special Forces Qualification Course. After he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course he was assigned to 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he commanded Operational Detachments Alpha 042 and Alpha 044 (Military Free Fall) with Headquarters Support Company 2nd Battalion 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Colonel Berg deployed in support of Operation Joint Guardian Kosovo, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom I, II and III. He served as the aide-de-camp to Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Joint Force Command, Brunssum, Netherlands. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with a Masters in Military Arts and Science. He commanded A Company, 1st Battalion, 10th SFG in in Stuttgart, Germany. He also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Trans Sahara in Central Africa and then served as the Task Force 10-2 commander in Afghanistan supporting International Security Assistance Force Special Operations Force. He returned to Stuttgart as the 1-10 SFG battalion operations officer and served a follow on joint assignment with Special Operations Command, Europe as the J35 Contingency Operations Branch Chief.

While with Special Operations Command Europe, Colonel Berg deployed to Afghanistan as the Special Operations Force Fusion Cell Operations Director and the Director, ISAF Special Operations Force Operational Coordination Group. He commanded 1st Battalion, 10 SFG and deployed the battalion headquarters to the Combined Special Operations Task Force-10. He recently returned from a one-year deployment as the Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan Liaison Officer to Headquarters Resolute Support in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Colonel Berg is a 2015 Distinguished Graduate from the United States Army War College.
